Miami Dade College is offering in-state tuition to Puerto Rican students displaced by the recent string of earthquakes that have devastated the territory.
The initiative aims to provide financial assistance to students that qualify for financial aid. It will cover in-state tuition for students after all scholarships and grants have been accounted for.
Applicants must provide documentation showing Puerto Rican descent. Acceptable documents include a voter registration card, driver’s license, vehicle registration and college ID.
Students must then complete an MDC application, complete a Disaster Displacement In-State Tuition Form at www.mdc.edu/disasterhelp/docs/prEarthquake.pdf and turn the form into the Admissions and Records Office at any campus along with their documentation.
There is a $30 fee for completing an MDC application.
The College has offered financial assistance to displaced students since Hurricane Maria in 2017 in order to ease their burdens amid the aftermath of natural disasters.
