Wolfson Campus will host Latin America, Now or Never?, the fifth installment of the Presidential Dialogue series, on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m via Zoom.
It will discuss the effects of COVID-19 on countries with weakened democracies and its potential threats to the rule of law. Guest speakers will come from countries such as Spain, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, Panama and Bolivia.
“Those interested in Latin America will be able to hear from prominent political figures what is happening in the region and how COVID-19 could threaten the already weakened democracies of the region, with some governments taking advantage of the emergency situation to impose further restrictions on individual rights and freedoms,” said Director of Conferences Isabel Artime.
Guest speakers include Secretary General of the Organization of American States Luis Almagro, President of the Inter-American Development Bank Mauricio Claver-Carone, and former heads of state José María Aznar from Spain, Laura Chinchilla from Costa Rica, Osvaldo Hurtado from Ecuador, Luis Alberto Lacalle from Uruguay, Mauricio Macri from Argentina, Jamil Mahuad from Ecuador, Andrés Pastrana from Colombia, Ernesto Pérez Balladares from Panama, Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga from Bolivia, and Miguel Ángel Rodríguez from Costa Rica.
