The Reporter Visits NYC For Spring National College Media Convention
This week, The Reporter is attending the College Media Association’s National College Media Convention from March 4–7 in New York City.
The traveling crew consisted of editor-in-chief Yazid Guelida, forum editor Ninette Portero, news writer Keyra Mendoza, photographer Lucas Duarte, and Reporter media advisor Manolo Barco.
Thus far we have intended workshops about the four elements of photography, public records, journalism ethics, investigative reporting for college journalists and chatted with attorneys from the Student Press Law Center.
In the coming days, we look forward to attending sessions on visual storytelling, leadership, podcasting, interviewing skills, diversity, equity and inclusion and a workshop by New York Times reporters about what they wish they knew in college.
We have also ventured away from the conference to visit Time Square, the Empire State Building and Central Park. Still our on agenda is to see a Broadway show, the World Trade Center, the Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Station and the Statue of Liberty.
Attending the CMA 26: National College Media Convention has been an insightful experience. We have gained valuable tools from professionals in the field and had the opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts with fellow student journalists from other states.
