The votes are in. Miami Dade College students have elected their next cohort of Student Government Association officers for the 2026-27 academic year.
Elections ran throughout March via MDC’s election website. Officers will be inducted on June 16 and serve in their positions through the end of the spring 2027 semester.
To be considered, candidates had to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent, be enrolled in at least six credits at their respective campus, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and maintain a clear academic conduct standing.
Each SGA campus president was interviewed for this story via phone or email and a short bio was compiled.
Eduardo J. Padrón Campus

President: Zelma Campos
Campos is a freshman in the Honors College pursuing an associates degree in business administration.
The 19-year-old is a member of PTK Beta Kappa Iota, the PTK chapter at Padrón Campus and Future Business Leaders of America. She has won several awards including three from SGA— the Rising Star Award in 2025 and 2026 and the Most Enthusiastic Award. Campos helped FBLA win fourth place in the Management Case Competition, which placed them in nationals.
Throughout her campaign she told students she plans to be a voice to communicate their wants and needs to faculty. Campos hopes to make music play a bigger role in student life. However, her focus remains to help students find projects that resonate with the campus community to offer support.
“[My campaign] showed me that there are many things students want to do,” Campos said. “They want to make [an] impact, they want to be part of [something], and I could be a part of helping them get that.”

Hialeah Campus

President: Nicole Maradiaga
Maradiaga is a freshman pursuing an associates degree in secondary education. She hopes to help students feel supported both on and off-campus by raising awareness of the various resources available to them.
The 19-year-old is part of the Hialeah Scholars and has won two awards, the First-Year Student of the Year Award and the Peer Mentoring Scholar of the Year. She was also the president of the Shark Soccer Association but reassigned the role to another student so she can focus on her new presidential duties in SGA.
Maradiaga’s older brother Martin served as SGA president at Hialeah Campus this past year. She aims to embody the spirit of his ideals while making her own path.
“If it’s meant to be, it will be,” Maradiaga said. “We’re here to make Hialeah proud and make a change on campus.”

Homestead Campus

President: Lamar Alibour
Alibour is a sophomore in the Honors College pursuing an associate’s degree in political science.
The 18-year-old is a member of Beta Alpha Iota, the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Homestead Campus. She is also a volunteer at her mosque where participates in Project Downtown by distributing food to the homeless. Alibour also organizes events to raise funds for the mosque and awareness for sociopolitical issues.
As president, she plans to create volunteer opportunities and expand resources for students pertaining to their majors and other passions they may have. She also aims to expand opportunities for students to have spaces to share concerns, provide feedback and engage with campus leadership.
“I feel that allowing the students to have a voice and have their concerns discussed will motivate them to continue to have a presence and a connection with the administration of the school,” Alibour said. “I want to create a campus where people feel included and not just present.”

Kendall Campus

President: Zaideth Maldonado
Maldonado is a sophomore majoring in dietetics. She is passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle, sports and overall wellness.
As president, she plans to improve transparency between SGA and students, increase participation in student activities and leadership opportunities and implement initiatives that directly respond to student needs.
“Miami Dade College is known for its diversity, with students from many different countries, languages, and backgrounds, and I want to help reflect and strengthen that identity,” Maldonado said. “My goal is to make every student feel welcomed, included, and at home, no matter where they come from, what language they speak, or their background. I believe that unity is our strength.”

President: Jade Suarez
Suarez is a junior pursuing an associates degree in health service management.
The 20-year-old graduated last month with an associate’s degree in dental assisting and is currently working to finish her clinical hours over the summer.
Suarez wants to improve student involvement on campus. She plans to make full use of the frequently empty study rooms in the Medical Campus and repurpose them to serve the campus better. She wants to host events like study sessions to help students feel comfortable enough to help each other out, whatever the circumstances.
“I want to be there for every student,” Suarez said. “It’s a huge honor, [to be elected SGA president] and I’m very excited for this year to begin.”

North Campus

President: Kathween Vargas
Vargas is a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in supervision and management.
The 23-year-old is the Honors in Action Director for Mu Epsilon, the PTK chapter at North Campus. She also serves as the social media director of the campus’ INIT chapter and a member of FBLA.
As president, she plans to promote student engagement and inclusion via programming through events like Taco Tuesdays, film screenings and skill-building workshops.
“I’m here to be their voice, to represent them in the best way possible and I want to make the best impact I can,” Vargas said.

West Campus

President: Jackson Rosello
Rosello is a sophomore pursuing an associate’s degree in political science.
The 20-year-old is a Presidential Scholar and works as a student assistant at the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy. He was also appointed as the secretary-elect of Beta Upsilon Gamma, the PTK chapter at West Campus.
As president, he plans to implement a new system to increase student engagement on campus. That system will include mass promotion on campus instead of just sharing event information through social networks. He wants to use vacant spaces to host events frequently and promote them on the television screens on campus to keep students involved on campus longer.
Rosello also aims to grow the connection between clubs at West Campus and the SGA by attending their meetings frequently and maintaining relationships with their executive boards.
“SGA should work like a link between the student and the faculty, the students and staff, the students and the whole campus,” Rosello said. “We want to bring these opportunities that MDC has to the students that don’t know about them.”

Wolfson Campus

President: Kyulhee Kim
Kim is a sophomore pursuing an associate’s degree in economics. She hopes to create an environment where students are well-represented and feel comfortable enough to speak up.
The 20-year-old is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and Model United Nations chapters at Wolfson Campus, where she attended state conferences and competitions.
She plans to increase student engagement on campus by promoting school spirit, and wants to organize initiatives such as transfer workshops and programs to provide students with academic and professional resources.
“When I found out that I had been elected, I honestly couldn’t believe it,” Kim said. “I had to reread the email three times just to make sure it was real. I felt incredibly honored, grateful, and excited to make a positive impact as SGA President.”
