Environmental Advocacy Presentation At Wolfson Campus
Ivonne Baki, Secretary of State for the Yasuní-ITT Initiative, will discuss a new environmental protection initiative in Ecuador to protect a national park on April 3 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wolfson Campus Auditorium, 300 NE Second Ave., Room 1261.
The initiative involves the Ecuadorian government and its refrainment from drilling for oil in Yasuní National Park, a lush environmental reserve in the midst of Ecuador’s Amazon rain forest.
Baki’s discussion will include Ecuador’s diplomatic negotiations worldwide to gather financial support from a wide variety of donors, the support and praise that the project has received from the United Nations and the environmental community; and the significance and value of this biologically diverse region of the world.
Baki will also assess the future of the project in the context of the current financial crisis and how this project could potentially empower environmental preservation advocates around the world.
The presentation is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The program will be followed by a reception.
