Harry’s House Feels Like Home

Since joining One Direction, Harry Styles has had the world wrapped around his finger, but since he began producing solo music, all eyes have been on him.

His first single, Sign of the Times, debuted in 2017 and his career has evolved since then.

Styles’ latest album Harry’s House was released on May 20.

The album’s first single, As It Was, let fans know what to expect. It set a record for the most streams in a day (8.3 million) by a male artist in Spotify history.

The fourth track starts with a voicemail from Styles’ goddaughter, “Come on, Harry. We want to say goodnight to you,” followed by a sound of synth pop.

With an uplifting tone, the song explores a sense of loneliness with lyrics like “In this world, it’s just us, you know it’s not the same as it was.”

This is Styles’ most intimate album. It allows listeners into his home.

The thirteenth track, Music For A Sushi Restaurant, features Styles singing about cooking sushi while he connects it to his yearning for a romance. It blends soft jazz and lively ’70s pop.

Late Night Talking reminds listeners of the honeymoon stage of a relationship when the conversations are nonstop.

Harry sings of an emotionally intimate relationship in Grapejuice. The song seems like a fantasy as Harry spends time with his favorite person and a bottle of wine to escape the stress of life.

Daylight is a perfect example of a summer love song. It provides a lot of imagery and cute lyrics like: “If I were a bluebird, I would fly to you. You’d be the spoon, dip you in honey, so I can be sticking to you.”

Little Freak is a slow, apologetic song that finds Styles sounding regretful about a relationship that never got to blossom. He acknowledges his faults and how he wishes he had been more vulnerable with lines like, “you never saw my birthmark.”

In Matilda, Styles sings to someone whose family did not treat them kindly. It was inspired by Roald Dahl’s book Matilda, which is about a telekinetic girl who is mistreated by her principal and parents.

The track emphasizes a recurring subject throughout the album: home is a state of mind rather than a physical place. Styles accomplishes this by demonstrating how Matilda’s house was not her home.

Daydreaming is a sunny, joyful song about a relationship that makes you feel like you’re “living in a daydream.”

The horns excitedly tooting away in the background, mixed with Styles’ “ooh-ooh”s and “woo”s, make every listen a vivid experience.

Satellite is my favorite song of the album. I find the meaning beautiful. It references how he is in a waiting game with someone he used to be close with.

Boyfriends is a mix of self recognition and men not truly appreciating their girlfriends.

The album closes with Love Of My Life, which revolves around the nostalgia of a past relationship and home, and all the memories they hold. It is a tribute song to where he came from and his hopes for the future.

Harry’s House is Styles’ most inventively produced album to date. It has the perfect balance of melancholy and joy. It proves that Style’s music will never go out of style.
