Hialeah Campus To Open Career Closet Next Spring

Hialeah Campus is organizing a career closet to provide Miami Dade College students with free, professional clothing and accessories to use for job interviews.

It will include suits, collared shirts, dresses, skirts, ties, blouses, shoes, heels, stockings, makeup and purses.

Style Savesa non-profit that raises funds for low-income families in Miami—donated apparel and accessories for the Career Closet. Sizes range from small to 3X.

The Career Closet will be located inside the Student Life Department in Room 2102 and is expected to open by the spring semester.

Items will include new and used merchandise. All previously used garments will be dry cleaned.

“The closet is a completely transformed and beautiful space so that when people come in, they don’t feel like they’re getting hand-me-down or used items,” said Kathlynn Larose, the administrative assistant to the Hialeah Campus president.

A grand opening event will be held at the campus but a date has not been selected.

During the grand opening week, Hialeah Campus will host job and interview workshops to expand students’ knowledge about professional attire, cover letters, resumes and interviews.

“I think a lot of students are gonna make good use of the closet and it will help with their careers,” said Hialeah Campus’ Phi Theta Kappa Co-President Alessandro Lorenzo, who is one of the students helping to organize, sort and stock the closet.

Students will have access to the closet either once a semester or once in the academic year. Selected items do not need to be returned.

Ryan Small, the Hialeah Campus’ Student Life Director, hopes the closet can help alleviate some of the stress associated with the cost of purchasing professional attire.

“We want to support our students in any way that we can,” Small said.

Potential donation items must be in excellent condition and can be dropped off in Room 2102 at the Hialeah Campus. Monetary donations can be made through this link: https://www.mdc.edu/hialeah/campus-information/closet-donation.aspx.
