MDC Students Awarded Timothy E. Johnson Jr. Scholarship
Six aviation students were awarded the Timothy E. Johnson Jr. Scholarship on May 31. Each student can receive up to $8,000.
This year’s winners are Miami Dade College’s Eig-Watson School of Aviation students: Christopher Bazaka, 19, Rodolfo Cabezas, 21, Henry Golembeski, 20, German Melo, 27, Sebastian Metral, 20, and Corey Pritchard, 24.
To qualify, students must be enrolled in the Professional Pilot Technology A.S. program and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a U.S citizen, complete at least 12 credits at MDC and submit two letters of recommendation (one being from a School of Aviation faculty member).
Established in 2013, the Timothy E. Johnson Jr. Scholarship is named after the late South Florida pilot who passed away in an aviation accident. In his memory, the Johnson family and The Eig-Watson School of Aviation created the scholarship.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the Johnson family has given me,” Melo said. “With this scholarship, I’ll be able to finish my private license and start my instrument license. It’s a door into this career and will help me fulfill my dreams.”
