MDC Foundation Appoints New Executive Director

Nelson Hincapie, who graduated with an associate’s degree in psychology from Miami Dade College in 2002, was appointed executive director of the MDC Foundation. He started his post on Jan. 18.

Hincapie, 48, will work alongside his team to raise funds for MDC’s students.

“I am blessed to have come to an incredible team of amazing professionals who give everything they have to make sure that every student thrives,” Hincapie said. “I want to make sure that any student who works hard has the opportunity that I had.”

Before coming to MDC, Hincapie served as chief executive officer at the Voices For Children Foundation for twelve years. Throughout his career, he has also served as an official member of the Forbes Nonprofit Council, director of development at the Children’s Home Society and a commission aide for Carlos A. Gimenez.

In 2015, Hincapie did a TED Talk where he shared part of his story as a testimony to what hard work can do to an individual’s life.

Hincapie has an associate’s of science degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University, an associate’s degree in psychology from MDC and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Florida International University. He also obtained a certificate in nonprofit management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
