The Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College is hosting visual artist Amanda Linares for an artist residency at the Kendall Campus Art Gallery, 11011 S.W. 104th St, Room M-123 throughout the summer term.
The Cuban-born artist explores themes such as immigration, identity, belonging and displacement.
She attended San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana from 2004 to 2008, where she received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Linares also received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from New World School of the Arts in 2020.
Miambiance, Kendall Campus’ literacy arts magazine, is hosting an ekphrastic poetry contest on June 25 at noon, during Linares’ open residency.
Participants will write a poem based on Linares’ work. The winner of the competition will have their poem featured in the 37th edition of the magazine.
Linares will also host an artist reception at the venue on July 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
