North Campus Computer Science Student Lands Internship at NASA
Nicolás González, a rising sophomore in the Honors College at North Campus, has been selected for a 10-week paid internship at NASA.
González, who is studying computer science, will work on software automation—a process designed to make repetitive, time-consuming tasks more efficient—at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama through August. Upon completion of the internship, he will receive an $8,000 stipend.
“At first, I thought they were going to reject me; there’s very good people in the United States,” said González, who was born in Cali, Colombia. “But then, I just tried it, and it’s possible… If you get into your mind [thinking] that you’re not capable of doing [something], you won’t be able to [do it].”
The 19-year-old, who was appointed president of the robotics club in May, aspires to transfer to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology next year to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
