Price Named Southern Conference Coach Of The Year
Skipper of The Year: Danny Price, head coach of the MDC Sharks, was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year. The Sharks finished with a (35-8) overall record.
In his third year as head coach for the Miami Dade College Sharks, Danny Price has been named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year.
“It represents the great coaches and great players you surround yourself with,” Price said. “It’s a team award.”
This season is the first time Price led the Sharks to the Florida College System Activities Association State Tournament. Although the Sharks were eliminated early in the tournament, the team still had a strong season.
The Sharks clinched the first place seed in the Southern Conference and ended the regular season with a 38-8 overall record and a 19-5 record in the Southern Conference.
“Our job is to get better every year,” Price said. “Our job is to get deeper and further next year.
Prior to coming to MDC three years ago, Price was the head coach for Florida International University from 1980 until 2007. While at FIU, he won 1086 games and coached professional baseball players Mike Lowell, Brad Eldred, Josh Banks and Mark Worrell.
During his tenure at MDC, Price has gone 99-47- 1 and has had 15 players drafted in the Major Leagues.
“Coach Price has been the best coach that I’ve had,” said Victor Caratini, a third baseman on this year’s team, who was drafted in the second round by the Atlanta Braves in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft. “He taught me to respect the game and play hard all the time.”
