Rosany Alvarez Named Florida Professor Of The Year

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching selected veteran mathematics professor Rosany Alvarez from InterAmerican Campus as the Florida winner of the U.S. Professor of the Year Award. 

Alvarez beat out 400 professors from colleges and universities in the Sunshine State. Thirty winners were named state Professors of the Year and one winner was recognized from the District of Columbia.

National and state winners of the 2014 U.S. Professors of the Year awards were honored Nov. 20 at a luncheon and awards ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Administered by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the awards recognize professors for their influence on teaching and commitment to undergraduate students

Alvarez, a two-time Endowed Teaching Chair at the College, has been teaching different levels of mathematics including developmental mathematics and  calculus at InterAmerican Campus for 24 years.

“I am very honored and humbled by this award since I work with other professors who are equally deserving as well,” Alvarez said.

Nicolette Perdomo

Nicolette Perdomo, 19, is a Mass Communications/Journalism major in the Honors College at Kendall Campus. She will serve as Editor-In-Chief/Briefing Editor for the summer 2015 issue. During the 2015-2016 school year, Perdomo served as staff writer for The Reporter.Perdomo was home schooled and earned her high school diploma in 2013. She aspires to become a broadcast journalist.
