Selling Sex Should Be Legal

Murderers are criminals; prostitutes are not criminals. The United States should legalize prostitution and allow people to pay for sex if they want to.

People are allowed to view porn, paying to watch sex, so by the same standard they should be allowed to pay for actual sex. It serves as a way for people to make money, like strippers at strip clubs.

Men and women could use the funds they make from prostitution to pay for their children’s schooling, put food on the table, and other expenses they might  have.

Porn star Miriam Weeks wrote in an opinion column in Rolling Stone Magazine that “prostitution opponents love to promote images of abused hookers and human traffickers to trump hostility towards sex work.”

Prostitution is not as dangerous as one might think, and if legalized, we could give them a professional workplace.

It will be in a protected environment that will be regulated by security so there will be less issues of rape, abuse, and underage individuals.

Women will no longer have to stand on a street corner where any criminal can hurt them.

Costa Rica has legalized prostitution, but according to http://prostitution.procon.org they:“Must be over 18 years old and carry a health card showing how recently they had a medical check-up.”

It would be better to have it regulated in a secure building where there would be annual checkups to make sure that there are no untreated STDs.

This can make it less possible for people to get HIV because now if any of the prostitutes have a health problem it can be treated immediately instead of having them pass it around.

I believe this is a perfect regulation to follow for safety and health reasons.

The “Red Light District” of Amsterdam is another place that allows legalized prostitution and it has contributed to their image as one of the more diverse and accepting places in the world.

According to Alejandro Angee, a sociology professor at Wolfson Campus, “At the end of the day, prostitution is not black and white, some chose to live this lifestyle therefore they should have a voice. We are not helping them by putting them in prison… they are a part of our society.”

Certain activities will continue to go on no matter how many rules you make to prevent them.

Prostitution is one of the oldest professions. Making it safe and profitable for the country will lessen the amount of people in jail, and add more tax dollars to the payroll of the government.

I do not want to go into the prostituting business, but I think that others should be allowed to follow their career choice.
