The Power Of Music Therapy

Music is a powerful tool that can help us express and deal with our emotions.

Although we all have different tastes, whether you like pop, rock or jazz, the effect is the same: it helps get rid of negativity, stress and anxiety.

Jamming out to your favorite song in the car while screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs is a fun experience in general.

As a student and part-time worker, stress is an extremely common word in my vocabulary, but nothing helps me more than to pour my heart out while singing and dancing to La Dueña del Swing by Los Hermanos Rosario.

During the past two years, many have experienced loss, fear and anxiety and have been forced to find healthy outlets to manage their emotions.

For many, one of those outlets is music.

The New York Times explains that when the human body is in distress, healing is slowed down due to the body shifting its focus from healing to coping. Therefore, music therapy is often used to calm patients and speed up the healing process.

As we continue to live in the pandemic age, music is the one thing that can always be seen as a “cure” for all mental illnesses.

Not only does music therapy assist in the healing process, but it is also used for patients that suffer from Parkinson’s, autism, cancer and even depression.

If you or anyone you know suffers from any mental illness, or just needs a healthy coping mechanism in order to feel better, consider advising them to try music therapy.
