The Reporter Selects Editor-In-Chief For 2022-23 School Year

Juan S. Gomez, a 20-year-old psychology major in the Honors College at Kendall Campus, has been selected as editor-in-chief of The Reporter for the 2022-23 school year.

Gomez, who is currently the paper’s forum editor and a news writer, will officially start his new role on Aug. 1. 

He will replace Ammy Sanchez who is transferring to the Honors College at Florida International University this fall to study digital journalism.

“I’m very excited,” Gomez said. “This position has a long-standing tradition of excellence I will strive to maintain and enhance.”

During his time at The Reporter, Gomez has written 30 articles ranging from a variety of subjects including: graduation, the baseball team’s state tournament run and this year’s Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship winners

He emigrated to the United States in 2012 from Bogotá, Colombia and graduated from Robert Morgan Educational Center in June of 2021.

Ammy Sanchez, 20, is a mass communications/journalism major in The Honors College at North Campus. Sanchez, who graduated from Hialeah Gardens High School in 2020, will serve as editor-in-chief, briefing editor and social media director for The Reporter during the 2021-2022 school year. She aspires to be a journalist.
