Two MDC Students Receive SFEFCU Scholarships

Katia Saint Pierre, a pre-nursing major at North Campus and Thian Melchior, a School for Advanced Studies student at Homestead Campus were the recipients of scholarships sponsored by the South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union.

Pierre received the Miami Dade College Tuition Reimbursement Scholarship which is worth up to $1,000. To be eligible, applicants must be a SFEFCU primary member, be enrolled in at least one credit course at MDC and get a grade of “C” or above. Deadline for this scholarship is a month before the end of each semester.

Melchior, 18, was one of the 15 recipients to receive the Hubert O. Sibley Four-Year Florida Prepaid University Tuition Scholarship, which covers four years of full tuition at any eligible university/college.

“It takes a lot of weight [off] my shoulders and I feel like it will open a lot of different doors for me,” said Melchior who plans to attend Florida Atlantic University.

To be eligible for the Hubert O. Sibley Four-Year Florida Prepaid University Tuition Scholarship, students or their parent/legal guardian must have a SFEFCU savings account for at least a year prior to completing the application. Students are also required to have a SFEFCU primary savings account by the deadline in April.

Winners are selected through lottery for both scholarships.
