Emily Sendin To Receive Distinguished Adviser Award
Emily Sendin will receive the 2020 Distinguished Adviser Award from the College Media Association for her work with Urbana Literary & Arts Magazine produced by students at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus. A virtual ceremony will be held on Oct. 23.
The award is presented annually to those who have served as a college student media adviser for five or more years and have demonstrated remarkable service in their field.
“I don’t do [my] job for the awards,” Sendin said. “I do it because I love art, I love writing, and I love to witness the creative process and see my students succeed.”
Sendin joined the Communication, Arts & Philosophy department at the Padrón Campus in 1999. She teaches English, literature, and leadership as an associate professor senior.
In 1994, she graduated from the Padrón Campus—known as the InterAmerican Center at the time—with an associate’s degree in English. Sendin transferred to Florida International University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 1996 and a master’s degree in 1998.
