Wolfson Campus Student Wins Karate Championship

David Bavaresco, a 26-year old engineering student at Wolfson Campus, became the World Karate Commission World Champion on Oct. 28 in Orlando.

Bavaresco was representing Venezuela versus competitors from 90 other countries. He’s been involved in martial arts since he was 10.

In 2016, he won a championship title at the New York Open Combat and Kata. A year later, he won the U.S. Open Karate championship in the 18-34 male advance kata category and the International Martial Arts Festival.

“It’s a professional career,” Bavaresco said. “I hope to one day represent the United States and open my own dojo in the future.”

Bavaresco earned an associate’s degree in international business from Miami Dade College in 2018. He is currently working toward his associate’s degree in engineering.
