Alumni Speaker Series To Feature Leopoldo “Leo” Portes

Leopoldo “Leo” Portes will be the next guest at the Miami Dade College Alumni Speaker Series on March 3 at 6:30 p.m. via Blackboard Collaborate.

The virtual series started last December. Portes will share his 24 years of experience in the insurance industry in his presentation: The Power of Perseverance.

He will also discuss his personal background, teach students how to overcome life obstacles, and engage in a Q&A session at the end.

“My main goal is to give some advice and meaning, and to assess some of those folks that haven’t made up their minds,” Portes said. “[I want to] teach them a little bit about myself and maybe that’ll help them get them over that hurdle.”

Portes earned an associate’s in business administration from MDC in 2004. One year later, he transferred to Florida International University, where he studied part-time until graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2009.

He currently works as a chief insurance officer and executive director of risk management for JAG Insurance Group, where he oversees a group of experienced claims advocates and risk managers.

The event is free and open to the public. Students must RSVP to receive a link to the event.
