Book Fair Offering Free Creative Writing Workshops For Teens

Speak Up, Miami Book Fair’s creative writing and performance program, is offering free workshops through March 23.

The seven-week virtual series seeks to help teens in Miami-Dade County between the ages of 13-19 enhance their creative writing skills.

Attendees will learn more about drafting, publishing and performing through brainstorming activities and freewriting exercises.

Chantel Acevedo, author of the fiction series Muse Squad, will lead the workshop on March 2. Sajni Patel, author of Drop Of Venom, a fantasy fiction novel, will star in the program on March 9 and March 16.

“We’re trying to offer as much help as possible to encourage students to write and tap into their creative skills, whether they think they have them or not,” said Marci Cancio Bello, a program coordinator for the MBF. “Everybody is a good storyteller.”

The Moth, a nonprofit organization that promotes the art of storytelling, will host a storytelling assembly to conclude the program on March 23.
