HistoryMiami Exhibition Details MDC’s 60-Year History

The exhibition, An Institution for All: The Unparalleled Story of Miami Dade College, 1960-2021, opened on Nov. 10 at HistoryMiami Museum, 101 West Flagler St., in the Mural Gallery.

It highlights the College’s 60-year history through 190 photographs, videos and artifacts. The installation consists of six components and will run through Dec. 5.

Old vs. New is a review of MDC’s mascots, logos and other insignias. Campuses Growth highlights the evolution of each campus. Arts, Culture and Events displays the events MDC has hosted, such as the Miami Book Fair and Miami Film Festival. Periodicals reviews the College’s past publications, like The Falcon Times. Milestones presents students and faculty who became famous, as well as MDC’s success in sports. College Presidents is a tribute to past MDC presidents and current president, Madeline Pumariega.

“It is not very often that you have the opportunity to look at this history in one shot,” said Rene Ramos, the director of the College’s Archives Department. “This is definitely a wonderful opportunity to learn about the community at MDC and everything that went into building it.”
