Ayanna Howard, a freshman in the Honors College studying mass communication/journalism at North Campus, was awarded the $5,000 Rochelle Bridges Memorial Scholarship on Sept.19 at the Miramar Cultural Center.
The scholarship, awarded by the National Association of Black Journalists South Florida chapter, is in honor of two-time Emmy award-winning WSVN 7 anchor Rochelle Bridges. It supports aspiring high school journalists.
Howard, who is 16, graduated from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School in 2026.
“I graduated at 15. I had doubts that [anybody] was going to take me seriously,” Howard said. “Evidently, they did. And I cannot be more grateful.”
This summer, Howard participated in an internship with 305+ Network, interviewing high school football players.
She aspires to be a sports reporter or news anchor.
