Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Ismare Monreal to Miami Dade College’s Board of Trustees.

Monreal, who will serve a four-year term, was sworn in at Tuesday’s BOT meeting.

“I’m super excited to be back at Miami Dade in a different role,” said Monreal, who earned an associate’s degree from the College in 1992. “My hope is to help [MDC] move forward and give students their best chance at making a difference.”

Monreal has served as the dean of students at Jonhson and Wales University-North Miami Campus since 2009 and became its vice president in 2016.

She previously served as a senior legislative assistant in the Florida House of Representatives and has volunteered at the Archdiocese of Miami Marriage and Family Ministry, the United Way of Miami-Dade and at A Safe Haven for Newborns.

Monreal earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Florida International University in 1995 and a master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix in 2005.
