The Reporter Selects Editor-In-Chief For 2024-25 School Year
Isabella Arce, a rising sophomore in the Honors College at Kendall Campus, has been appointed as The Reporter’s editor-in-chief for the 2024-25 school year.
She will begin her duties on Aug. 5.
Arce will oversee a staff of more than 40 students, assign and edit stories, train writers, oversee section editors and represent the paper at college-wide events.
“I [hope] to continue the legacy of The Reporter and serve the community through journalism,” she said.
The 19-year-old graduated from Downtown Doral Charter Upper School in June of 2023 and served as a staff writer for The Globe, the school’s student newspaper.
Arce’s curiosity and love for storytelling inspired her to join The Reporter in October of 2023. Within a month, she transitioned from the briefing section to news, covering stories such as Eduardo J. Padron Campus’ new electric vehicle charging stations, Hialeah Campus’ dominoes club and Kendall Campus’ speech and debate lab overhaul.
In the spring, Arce started writing feature stories. She reported on a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program alumna’s burgeoning ice cream company, a North Campus film student who won best screenplay at the Las Cruces International Film Festival and a Miami Fashion Institute student who debuted a faith-inspired collection and aspires to become a sister in a convent.
Arce also dabbled in sports reporting, penning articles on Miami Dade College’s FIFA partnership and the construction of a $5 million soccer stadium at Kendall Campus.
“[People’s] stories are like puzzle pieces,” she said. “By listening to their stories you’re putting their pieces together and figuring out why they are how they are.”
Arce is pursuing an associate’s degree in pre-nursing and aspires to become a travel nurse. She serves as vice president of the N.U.R.S.E. club at Kendall Campus and works as a part-time aftercare leader at Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School.
