Y2K Trashy-Chic Fashion Is Back—Here Are Five Staples To Have In Your Closet

Look no further than your TV screen for the next big fashion trend. Shows like HBO’s Euphoria and Hulu’s Pam & Tommy are being credited with bringing back the trashy-chic aesthetic of the early 2000s.

The “trashy-chic” look combines flashy elements like bold makeup, rhinestones and jewels and faux fur with lowbrow items like excessively short cut-off shorts and velour tracksuits.

Here are five trashy-turned-chic clothing items that have been popping up on our TV screens:

Animal Print

Whether it is snake or leopard skin, these prints are prominent in both Euphoria and Pam and Tommy. From Tommy’s iconic furry leopard print bucket hat to Kat’s wild side looks in Euphoria, animal print is loud and proud. This comeback is typically referred to as regaining a sense of power and self-awareness.

Faux Fur-Lined Cardigans

Just like Maddy’s fur-lined cardigan in Euphoria, these types of sweaters combine an over-the-top neckline and sleeves with a tighter, cropped silhouette. You can keep it buttoned-up or leave it open at the bottom for a playful peek of skin.

Latex Bodycon Dresses

This trend might be considered on the chic rather than trashy Y2K scale. Many celebrities, including the Kardashians and Jenners, love wearing latex and tight dresses.

Pam’s outfits throughout the show have many curvy looks from her black latex Barb Wire premiere dress to her gold vintage Vivienne Westwood dress.

Trucker Hats

Von Dutch trucker hats were all the rage in the early 2000s with celebrities like Paris Hilton rocking them. Now, they are back and better than ever with a range of fun colors and rhinestone decals to add “tacky” fun to your overall look.

Daisy Dukes

As the weather gets hotter, go for a pair of frayed and distressed denim shorts. This look is fitted into Pam’s fashion with cheeky jean shorts on the show. The more skin, the better.
